Learn the joy of improvisation! Discover the power and delight of “Yes, and!” in a world that often says “No but!” Spend an hour at Dallas Comedy Club for some no pressure, all fun improv! Learn to act without a script and write on your feet with 0% fear and 100% fun! This is the perfect place for absolute beginners to get acquainted with the art of improvisation. All skill levels are welcome, but beginners are especially encouraged to try this class out. So if you’ve ever watched shows like Whose Line Is It Anyway? or Curb Your Enthusiasm and thought, “This looks like a lot of fun…” then come give this whole ‘improv’ thing a try!

Intro to Improv takes place at 4:00pm on the fourth Saturday of each month. The class will be led by a qualified faculty member from the DCC Training Center. Must be 18 years or older to enroll and participate. Students age 15 and up may attend but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. An RSVP is required as we only have 20 spots available each month.

You’re a funny person, now it’s time to get your funny ideas on paper! In Intro to Sketch, you’ll learn the basics of sketch writing and develop a variety of skills to produce sketches of your own. Each week your instructor will teach you a different style of sketch through lectures, examples, and exercises created to help you master that specific style. Over the course of eight weeks, you will generate premises, write sketches, do table reads, get feedback, and transform into a real comedy writer just like those who write for SNL, Key & Peele, The Iliza Show, and more! You’ll leave class with the beginning of a comedy portfolio you can be proud of!

This class is eight weekly sessions running from October 27th 2024 to December 15th, 2024. The instructor is Dan Sybert. Classes are non-refundable and all sales are final. Learn about how improvisation and sketch are different but very similar. So similar in fact that they compliment each other and can be used to workshop your next sketch or next improv scene, format, etc. Learn about exercises and techniques to blend the two art forms together in order to generate ideas or fine tune existing ideas for a sketch. Discover how to uncover humor in the ordinary with “Find the Funny.” This workshop will teach you to look for absurd situations, embrace the unexpected, and observe quirky human behavior. You’ll explore wordplay, exaggeration, and irony while learning to connect unrelated ideas for maximum comedic effect. We’ll practice self-deprecating humor, amplifying everyday frustrations, and using timing for comedic delivery. Learn to find laughter in the mundane and turn negativity into something lighthearted. By the end, you'll see the world in a funnier, more entertaining way.

Are you interested in the art of roasting? Ever wonder how these comics write playful zingers about their opponents? Do you want to WIN?!?! Our workshop discusses the dynamics of roasting, how to write a great roast joke, and how to win a roast battle.

Emily Grefer has been participating and winning roast battle for the last 6 years. She was Plano Comedy Festivals first ever Roast champion (she still has the belt), has won roasts in Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, Austin, Oklahoma City, and more! She’s even won a roast with the producers of The Comedy Store’s LA Roast Battle. If you want to be a roast master, this is the workshop for you!

The Business of Standup Workshop is designed to equip aspiring comedians with the tools to navigate the professional side of comedy. Participants will learn the essentials of the standup business, beginning with "Comedy as a Business" and a simplified guide to becoming a working comedian. Additionally, the session provides a step-by-step guide to securing bookings in a competitive industry. You'll learn about the roles of agents and managers, and strategies to build a loyal following in the standup scene. The realities of making a living from comedy, including the ups and downs, are also discussed, along with tips for managing nerves and staying focused. The session concludes with professional codes for comedy business success and some actionable homework to help kickstart your career.
